Peter Beattie has made more than his fair share of gaffes in his time in rugby league and he added another on Wednesday night.

While giving a speech at the NRL Hall of Fame ceremony, Beattie mispronounced the surname of JJ Giltinan - the first administrator to be inducted.

Several times, Beattie called one of the crucial figures in the early years of the sport 'JJ Gillitan', with the mistake not going unnoticed on social media.

Giltinan played an influential role in the NSWRL's formation in 1907 and was also instrumental in the inaugural Kangaroos tour to England in 1908-09.

He died in 1950 and was rewarded for his enormous contribution to rugby league with the JJ Giltinan Shield which was presented to the premiers from 1951-97.

It is now awarded to the NRL minor premiers each season.

The administrator was one of the three contributors to be added in a first for the Hall of Fame.

Ray 'Rabbits' Warren and Peter 'Chippy' Frilingos were also inducted as the inaugural broadcast and print media representatives.

"This is a very special induction - the first members of the class who are contributors," NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said.

First non-players go into NRL Hall of Fame

First non-players go into NRL Hall of Fame Non-playing rugby league luminaries have been admitted to the NRL Hall of Fame for the first time.

This wasn't a Hall of Fame induction speech, but a bully tripping nerds with lunch trays in the school cafeteria. Jordan wandered through an unfocused and uninspired speech at Symphony Hall , disparaging people who had little to do with his career, like Jeff Van Gundy and Bryon Russell.

On 19 January 1994 Paul McCartney gave a speech during John Lennon' s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Among those in attendance was Yoko Ono. That night Ono gave McCartney cassette tapes containing four demos recorded by Lennon: Free As A Bird, Real Love

"That speaks for the calibre of not only the nominations but obviously those who were chosen. They will always be the first of our contributors to be inducted.

"Without them, the game would look, feel and sound very different. Each of them had extraordinary influence on the game."
