Cronulla Sharks veteran Paul Gallen has nailed the first field goal of his NRL career as his side ensured the skipper's career would go on for at least another week.

Gallen's field goal was the cherry on top of a dominant second-half performance which saw the Sharks pile on three tries in a devastating six-minute stretch before running out 25-8 winners at Leichhardt Oval.

"We just performed in a way a team like ours should," Gallen told Fox Sports.
