Newcastle Knights propr David Klemmer faces a possible fine and suspension after he allegedly abused an NRL official during his side's loss to the Panthers in Penrith on Sunday afternoon.

With Newcastle on the wrong end of a 54-10 hammering, Klemmer was accused of calling the official a "f***ing idiot," according to the Daily Telegraph.

The incident is alleged to have happened in the 75th minute when Klemmer was being replaced.

The Telegraph reports that the NRL is investigating the reported incident.
