Essendon forward Joe Daniher is already at the centre of one of the biggest trade stories of the season and Bob Murphy thinks there's a bit of fire to the smoke.

Bombers midfielder Zach Merrett kicked the rumour mill into gear again on Wednesday when he said his teammate had a decision to make.

"Joe's obviously got to make his mind up himself," Merrett told reporters in Melbourne.

"I think he's made it pretty clear that he's going to have a bit of time away and decide what he wants to do with his footy going forward.

"So the club's fully supportive of Joe and whatever he does and I hope that he's... at Essendon next year."

George Pell seeks leave to appeal child sex abuse convictions in High Court Cardinal George Pell has taken his legal fight to overturn his child sex abuse convictions to the High Court of Australia. Credit Cards Are Now Offering 0% Interest Until 2020 Find out more on Finder Ad Finder.com.au An application seeking leave to appeal has been lodged, following the Victorian Court of Appeal's dismissal of Pell's appeal in August. The 78 year-old former advisor to the Pope is currently serving a maximum six-year prison sentence for the sexual abuse of two former choirboys at St Patrick's Cathedral, while he was the archbishop of Melbourne.

Those comments came on the back of reports last month that Daniher had met with Swans CEO Tom Harley.

The left-footer has spoken publicly since, but in most viewers' opinion, hadn't completely shut down the speculation.

Speaking on AFL360 on Wednesday, a question was put to the panel: "Hands up if you think Joe Daniher will be at Sydney next year?"

Three of the four raised their hands, with Nick Riewoldt the odd man out.

Murphy said while he thinks Daniher likes being an Essendon player, he mightn't appreciate the scrutiny and added pressure that comes from being in the Melbourne 'bubble'.

The former Bulldogs skipper expanded on that point on SEN radio.

"It felt to me when the connection with Joe and Sydney (emerged), I thought there’s something in that, there’s more to that," Murphy said.

Fortnite Is Coming To The NRL Grand Final

Fortnite Is Coming To The NRL Grand Final How do you get kids excited in sport these days? The answer, apparently, is Fortnite. A release from LetsPlay.Live, the Australian and New Zealand esports group that acquired the long-running Cybergamer website at the start of this year, has announced that the firm will be holding a Fortnite event as part of the NRL Grand Finals this year. It'll run more or less how you'd expect these tournaments to. There's a string of online qualifiers before the grand finals, where Fortnite players have to signup and compete through the LPL platform.

"If I was Essendon I would think he’s gone, if I was an Essendon supporter, I would be preparing yourself – I think he’ll go.

"I think Sydney has a pull for certain players who don’t really want the limelight.

I think Joe loves his footy but he’s not a fanatic, he doesn’t seem to be a fanatic for the spotlight or for the bubble of Melbourne in the ‘footy world’.

"I think Sydney would have that appeal for him, he might have the view that he just needs a change. There’s just a gut feel for me that I think this is heading one way."

Daniher has played 104 games for the Bombers since his 2013 debut, kicking 188 goals.

Injuries have limited the 25-year-old to just 11 matches over the past two seasons and while he is contracted for 2020 at Essendon, there is a growing feeling that he may head north to the Swans.
