The Penrith Panthers have granted hooker Wayden Egan an immediate release to join the New Zealand Warriors.

Penrith announced the news via a press release on Wednesday afternoon, with Egan set to replace Issac Luke in the number nine jersey across the ditch.

A Panthers junior, Egan debuted in first grade in 2018, playing 29 games and scoring three tries.

“Wayde and his management this week approached Panthers to request an immediate release from the remainder of his contract,” Panthers General Manager Rugby League Matt Cameron said.

“As a club we would have liked Wayde to see out his contract however we also understand the opportunity presented by the Warriors was a difficult one for Wayde to turn down at this point in his career.

Egan will likely slot in at hooker at the Warriors after Luke's four-year stint there ended after the 2019 season.

After nine season at the Rabbitohs, Luke signed with the New Zealand side ahead of the 2016 season.

The 32-year-old played 83 games for the Warriors, including 23 as a crucial member of last year's side that made the finals for the first time since 2011.
