The NBL is ready to talk to NBA draft prospect James Wiseman if the University of Memphis Star is banned by the US college basketball authority.

Wiseman was ruled ineligible by the NCAA on Saturday (AEDT), after allegations hereceived financial support from his now coach Penny Hardaway to move from Nashville to Memphis while he was in high school.

At the time Hardaway was a high school coach and not the coach of Memphis.

Wiseman starred for the Memphis Tigers in his only game and has taken legal action to stay the ban, which should allow him to play his next game or two before a judge can hear the case.

The NBL has already signed potential NBA top five picks LaMelo Ball and RJ Hampton, with both already six rounds into the season with Illawarra Hawks and New Zealand Breakers.

It is unclear which NBL sides may be able to find a roster spot for Wiseman but he is a prodigious talent so the NBL are willing to talk to him if he is banned from US college basketball and needs a place to play.

NBL commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said the league was interested in talking if Wiseman wanted to come to Australia but the league will also do its due diligence.

"Potentially, but it hasn't even been a discussion yet," Loeliger said.

"These decisions require a lot of due diligence on both sides to ensure it's in everyone's best interests.

"He's exceptionally talented and of course we'd be interested, but honestly we haven't even had a conversation with him or his family."

If Wiseman is banned by the NCAA, he could look to play in the NBA G-League, play overseas or remain in the US and train for next year's NBA draft.
