The top teams have all gone through periods of sustaining incredible defences that have, for the most part, throttled attacking play. CARDIFF, Wales (AP) — Wales center Jonathan Davies will miss the entire Six Nations rugby tournament after being ruled out for at least six months while he recovers from knee surgery.

Davies hurt his left knee in a pool game against Fiji at the recent Rugby World Cup, forcing him out of the quarterfinal win over France. But he returned to play in the losses to South Africa in the semifinals and New Zealand in the bronze-medal match with a heavily bandaged knee.

The timescale for Davies' return after surgery means he might miss the remainder of the season for his region, the Scarlets, who play in the Pro14 league.

The Welsh Rugby Union added on Tuesday that flyhalf Rhys Patchell, who also plays for the Scarlets, will be sidelined for 12-16 weeks with a shoulder injury also sustained at World Cup. That means he will miss the start of the Six Nations and could be out of the entire tournament.

Another option for Wales at flyhalf, Gareth Anscombe, is also currently out injured with a knee problem.
