The Gold Coast Titans have re-signed winger Phillip Sami on a two-year extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2022 NRL season.

The 22-year old - affectionaly known as 'The Hound' after chasing down Josh 'The Fox' Addo-Carr in the 2019 season - will remain at the embattled club despite offers from rival clubs.

With just 43 NRL games to his name, there is plenty of good football ahead of the winger and he believes the Titans is the best place for him to develop.

“Obviously I had decisions to make in the off-season and the start of the pre-season,” he said.

“I went back to the family, and they are very happy that I am staying home. I am very grateful for the opportunity that Justin has given me. Hopefully I can make the most of it here.

Mitchell to meet with Titans: Meninga

Mitchell to meet with Titans: Meninga Mal Meninga has confirmed Gold Coast's interest in Latrell Mitchell, and made a vow to the Origin and Roosters star."I think I can offer that guidance but Latrell needs to work out what he wants to do in life," Meninga told the Daily Telegraph.

The 2016 Gold Coast Titans season was the 10th in the club's history. Coached by Neil Henry and co-captained by Nathan Friend and William Zillman, the Titans are currently competing in the NRL 's 2016 Telstra Premiership. They also competed in the 2016 NRL Auckland Nines tournament.

The 2014 Gold Coast Titans season was the 8th in the club's history. Coached by John Cartwright and co-captained by Greg Bird and Nate Myles, they competed in the NRL 's 2014 Telstra Premiership.

“On the off-season I had other clubs chasing me, and pretty much in the last two weeks my manager went back to the Titans and told them the situation I was in.

“I was thankful that the Titans came back with an offer. For me, choosing to stay home is a big part of what I want to do here. I know this club has a big future, so I wanted to be a part of it.

“You have the plus side of having family here, and friends here that I have known for a long time. So staying home was big part of my plans, and I am very grateful that the Titans gave me an opportunity to do that.”

It is a big boost for the club as they begin life with new coach Justin Holbrook for the 2020 season - but there are still plenty of other key players they need to lock up.

Jai Arrow has been heavily-linked to a move away from the club for 2021, while fullback AJ Brimson will be a target for a few Sydney-based sides.

And Sami - who came through the ranks with Brimson - will be doing his best to make sure they can continue to play alongside each other.

“I had a word with him about it, so hopefully he stays too,” he said.

Sami has scored 21 tries in his young career and will no doubt be a strike player for the Gold Coast for years to come.
