Simply too much: NRL won't pay $1m for Tina Turner anthem
The idea is a great one - bring the tune back 30 years after it enjoyed a league life. But the talk around Turner has gone quiet. This column has been told the reason for this is the $1million price tag that Turner or her management has placed on the deal. There is a view from the NRL that they could get Taylor Swift for that kind of money – but the sentiment Turner would bring with her would obviously not be part of the price.© AP Unwell: Tina Turner with Oprah Winfrey in New York this month. The NRL have confirmed that they are still in talks with her management – and they didn’t deny the $1million asking price.
South Sydney stars Damien Cook and Cameron Murray this week admitted they are keeping a close eye on reports Semi Radradra could be heading to Redfern – and it has now emerged the interest is very much mutual.
on Wednesday confirmed the Rabbitohs and a representative from the former Parramatta Eels winger’s camp have held preliminary talks about a possible move to Redfern.
Semi Radradra is a quality player and he did a great job when he was in the NRL,” star hooker Cook told Sporting News.
NRL 2020: Souths players welcome potential Semi Radradra recruitment
A third party, acting on Radradra’s behalf, has held informal talks with the Bunnies. With a decision expected soon on whether the NRL will allow the Bunnies to medically retire the Englishman and free up serious cash under the salary cap, a host of names have been thrown up as potential targets.
“He’d be a great asset to most clubs. Who knows (what will happen)? We will see how it plays out.”
Representative back-rower Murray added: “He is one of those freak athletes who gets the job done on the wing.
“He’d be a great asset to any NRL side and the NRL as a whole.”
The Rabbitohs have been linked with several big-name signings in recent weeks following skipper.
South Sydney officials have applied to have the Englishman medically retired, meaning the $1.2 million he is owed in each of the next three seasons would not be counted against the salary cap.
But in a stunning development,on Friday reported Radradra is homesick and would be prepared to join the Rabbitohs on a cut-price contract for 2020.
The mystery man behind South Sydney's Radradra bid revealed
A prestige car dealer and now a big wheel in the art world has been pushing for Semi Radradra to come to Redfern, but he doesn't want any credit. But first it’s worth pointing out that the giant Fijian, who is playing for Bordeaux in France, is not homesick – at least not for Sydney. He does long for Fiji, but a return to the NRL is said to be a desire to end his league career on his own terms. You’ll remember he left soon after domestic violence charges were dropped in 2017.
The 27-year-old is on a reported $1 million a season with French rugby club Bordeaux and remains one of the hottest properties in the 15-man code after starring in Fiji’s recent Rugby World Cup campaign.
But Ritchie reports the former Kangaroos flyer is prepared to take as little as half of his current salary to return to Sydney, with Redfern his preferred destination.
It is understood Parramatta and Canterbury-Bankstown are also monitoring Radradra’s situation closely.
Complicating matters is the fact the Fijian-born flyer has a year to run on his Bordeaux deal.
Radradra scored 82 tries in 94 games for the Eels after making his NRL debut in 2013.
He left the NRL in 2017 to take up a lucrative deal with cashed-up French club Toulon before switching to Bordeaux in 2018.
