Sydney Kings coach Will Weaver has no doubt Australian star Mitch Creek will be back in the NBA once this season is over and he doesn't think Creek will be alone.

Weaver coached Creek at NBA G-League club Long Island Nets last season and after watching Creek's performance for South East Melbourne Phoenix in Sydney's 94-90 win on Saturday night, Weaver is certain the Phoenix captain will be back in the big league.

Creek had 20 points and seven rebounds against the Kings and ranks among the NBL leaders in both categories after 10 games.

Bogut open to NBA return if situation is right

Bogut open to NBA return if situation is right Andrew Bogut has left the door open for another stint in the NBA later this season, but the Sydney Kings star won't be heading back to America "for the sake" of it.Bogut successfully split his time between the NBL and NBA last season, helping the Kings make the playoffs before linking up with the Golden State Warriors for their push towards a fifth consecutive NBA finals series, which they lost to Toronto.

Joining the Kings may not completely end Bogut's NBA career as he could conceivably play in Australia until late February or early March and then sign with an The signing will also see Bogut teamed with Australian legend and Kings coach Andrew Gaze in a city the NBL has yet to win over.

Andrew Gaze has decided three seasons as coach of the Kings are enough, opting to step down at the end of this year's playoffs. The Australian basketball great was also concerned conjecture and "potentially harmful" rumours would hurt his side's finals preparation, especially as the NBL pauses for

Creek played in the NBA last season taking up short-term deals with the Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves before just missing out on a contract offer this season which saw him head back to the NBL and take up his deal with the Phoenix.

"I think he's an NBA player," Weaver said.

"I think he'll play in the NBA as soon as this [NBL] season ends. He'll be on 10-day contracts. I get hounded by a number of people about a number of players."

The 27-year-old Phoenix star has made it clear he is working hard on his three-point shot and other skills to show he can handle a full-time place in the NBA.

Creek also blamed himself for teammate Dane Pineau being unable to grasp his pass in the final seconds which could have led to the winning basket for the Phoenix.

"I drew the second defender and I didn't have enough lift so I saw the corner guy lift up and I saw Dane out the corner of my eye and thought I could give him the pass," Creek said.

"Then I threw him a stinker of a curve ball and the people in the front row caught it. That's on me. We didn't get a field goal attempt on that last play. You miss it, you miss it; you make it, you make it; but you throw it out of bounds and you don't get a chance to win."

Weaver didn't stop at Creek, pointing out that NBA scouts were not just watching the Brazilian draft pick Didi Louzada and US teenagers LaMelo Ball and RJ Hampton, who are tipped to be top-10 picks in the next year's NBA Draft.

He said Creek and several other players including Tate had multiple teams tracking their performances.

Jae'Sean Tate, 24, starred at prominent US college Ohio State before moving into the professional game, and Weaver said it was when he was told that Tate was similar to Creek that he moved into overdrive in trying to sign him.

"As an example of how much I like and respect Mitch, the moment I went from interested in Jae'Sean to desperate to sign him was when Shannon Scott, his old Ohio State teammate and who played with Mitch last year in Long Island, told me "Oh yeah, he's Creeky"," Weaver said.

"After that I was fumbling over myself to get it done, Shannon has been proven right by how Jae'Sean is playing."

When asked if he had scouts directly chasing Tate, Weaver went silent, mouthing "yes" but shook his head intimating he doesn't want the US league to take Tate before the season finishes.

"Just ignore that," Weaver said to Tate with a smile.

"You like Sydney, don't you? It's summertime."

Whether or not they like the NBL or the warm climate, Tate and Creek could be off to bigger and better things once this season finishes.
