Delisted Gold Coast Suns midfielder Jack Martin has gotten his wish, picked up by Carlton in the pre-season draft.

Martin expressed his desire to be traded from the Suns during the season, nominating Carlton as his desired club.

When this didn't go through, the 24-year-old delisted in the hopes of being picked up by the Blues.

Whilst Gold Coast threatened to re-draft him since they had the first pick, they opted to pass through the selection after Martin requested a multi-million dollar deal from any club that took him.

This allowed Carlton to swoop in and take the Claremont product, with Carlton general manager Stephen Silvagni delighted to bring him to Ikon Park.

“He will strengthen our forward line and also has the ability to play through the midfield and down back which will be a real asset for us.

“At 24 years of age and with 97 games of AFL experience under his belt, bringing Jack to the football club perfectly aligns with the list management strategy we have committed to over the last few years.

“We believe Jack will be able to have an immediate impact at Ikon Park from day one of pre-season and we look forward to seeing him excite the Carlton faithful for many years to come.”

Martin was one of just two players picked in the pre-season draft, with delisted Bomber Michael Hartley joining Hawthorn.

Hartley would play 44 games for the Bombers after being drafted in 2015.

The pair were amongst a plethora of players selected in the pre-season and rookie drafts, with Adelaide pulling the most noteworthy moves during the rookie draft, picking up mature-age players Ben Keays and Ben Crocker.

There were just 14 new players added to club lists at the rookie selection meeting, with many clubs using the draft to bring back their own delisted players or offering lifelines to those cut elsewhere.
