After his triple century heroics to put the Aussies on top at 3-589 on day two of the second Test, as Warner headed back to the dressing rooms upon declaring, he handed his helmet and gloves to a kid by the fence.

The youngster grabbed the helmet but was immediately swarmed by other kids and had a bigger child pull it off him.

The Fox Sports cameras stayed on the helmet and spotted the two boys that came away with the helmet, joyfully congratulating each other.

On Nine's Sports Sunday, the panel was outraged and saddened by the scene.

"Oh boys, c'mon. That makes me want to cry," host James Bracey said.

"They need to investigate this and get it back to the rightful owner."

Netball legend Liz Ellis said she wouldn't have allowed her children to do such a thing.

"If that was my kid I'd be like, 'You're taking that back to the kid that got it'," she said.

On Fox Sports and Seven, another different kid was interviewed holding the helmet, talking about how Warner gave him the souvenir.

"It's the helmet what he wore today and yesterday and I think he played amazing," he said.

"I'm probably going to frame it in the home theatre room, which is like a big movie room for us.

"Thank you so much David Warner."

Keen observers noted that he was right beside the child in the green jacket, with the white sleeve of his jumper worn in the interview, clearly visible in the sea of hands.

It's not yet known if the kid in the green jacket at the front of the fence ever got anything from the Australian cricket team after the awkward incident, but Bracey suggested it would be a good idea on day three if they could make it happen.
