Whitfield said it's the chase for success that made it an easy decision to re-sign with GWS.
"I’ve known my future is in Sydney for a long time," Whitfield said.
"I play for success and so being at the Giants is clearly the best option for me.
"As a club we’ve been in four finals in a row now and we’re a hungry group who continually drive each other to be better than the season before.
"This is an outstanding club with outstanding people and I’m excited to be here."

Coniglio, from Western Australia, rebuffed several big-money offers from around the country towith the league's youngest club, joining the likes of Toby Greene, Nick Haynes, Josh Kelly, Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper in committing to the club.
Giants footy manager Jason McCartney spoke about Whitfield and the club's futures following his extension.
"Lachie is an exceptional player and person and we had no hesitation in extending him long-term," McCartney said.
"His signing, along with the likes of Stephen Coniglio, Toby Greene, Nick Haynes and Harry Himmelberg, are strong indicators of the club we have built here.

The Whitfield signing leaves Jeremy Cameron as the only one of the Giants key players yet to commit his future beyond 2020, though reports suggest he's not far away from agreeing a deal.
