The tennis world was left completely stunned following one of the rarest achievements in the sport with Thailand's Krittin Koaykul defeating Ukraine's Artem Bahmen 6-0, 6-0 in a golden match, in the ITF World Tennis Tour competition.

A golden match only occurs when a player does not lose a single point in the entire contest.

Koaykul entered the match ranked at ATP World No.1,369. The 24-year-old was competing in the first round of qualifying at the M15 event in Doha when the near-impossible achievement happened.

In a diabolical two-set performance the Ukrainian struggled to keep the ball in the court for more than a couple of shots consecutively, even as his opponent acknowledged his lack of ability and started to play easy rally points against him.

So how was he allowed to enter the tournament?

In this case that remains a mystery although any player can technically enter an ITF tournament that does not have a qualifying draw, so long as they pay the entry fee and have an ITF membership. That may have been what happened here.

However, a golden match has yet to feature in ATP or WTA level with only two golden sets in history coming close to achieving the incredible feat.

American Bill Scanlon earned a golden set against Brazil's Marcos Hocevar at the men's tour in Delray Beach, Florida, in 1982.
