Novak Djokovic gets home-crowd feel in Sydney at ATP Cup SYDNEY (AP) Almost an hour after he walked off Ken Rosewell Arena to the raucous chants of his name, Novak Djokovic was distracted by replays of his comeback win over Canadian opponent Denis Shapovalov that secured Serbia's place in the ATP Cup semifinals. It was like he was reliving the big moments again, as he regularly glanced over to a TV monitor showing highlights in between answering questions at a news conference.Djokovic, who has won a record seven Australian Open men's singles titles, was playing in Sydney for the first time in a decade after going 3-0 in singles in the ATP Cup in Brisbane.

Sometimes there seems to be no logic. Novak Djokovic had not served a double fault in nearly three sets. Then he served three in one game and conceded the set.

Of course Djokovic responded to that surprising triple double-fault mishap and took an early lead in the fourth set against German Jan-Lennard Struff and went on to win the match in that fourth set 7-6, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, but it remained a quirky misstep.

Things began by way of the courteous formality of a first round. Struff was the obliging counterpoint offering the sufficiently challenging but not onerous workout the defending champion required.

In quick time the second seed was out to a 5-2 lead and the first round appeared likely to be a quick affair. Then Djokovic hit the 'tweener'. He lost the point. Whether it was coincidence or prompted the comeback, Struff lifted his energy and the power and risk in his game and managed to wrestle that first set out to a tie-break.

"I will probably not try that any more this tournament," Djokovic said of his 'tweener'.

Struff was playing big tennis, powerful heavy shots that were landing. He was playing very well, just not good enough for long enough to beat an all-time champion.

Djokovic won the first set tie-breaker and then rumbled through the second set.

Struff was still not compliant. He twice broke Djokovic's serve in the third set and refused to concede to the seeming inevitability of loss when confronting one of the greatest players of the modern era. Then came the three double faults and the third set was Struff's.

The energy required to sustain the power and intensity in Struff's game became more telling and Djokovic out-worked him to win the last set comfortably.

Djokovic said he was proud of his remarkable achievement to win his 900th tour tennis match.
