Test paceman James Pattinson is suffering from back and hip soreness and has been ruled out of the Australia A side to face the England Lions this week.

Cricket Australia have not released details regarding the severity of his injury but said he reported soreness in his lower back and hip after playing grade cricket.

Pattinson, 29, has had a long history of back injuries which have limited him to just 21 Tests after making his debut in 2011.

Pattinson was overlooked for the start of the Test summer but played the final two games of the series against New Zealand after Josh Hazlewood was injured.

Australia's next Test assignment is not until the winter when they travel to Bangladesh for a two-match series.
