Mal Meninga has suggested the Titans remain a genuine chance of landing the prized signature of boom Broncos forward David Fifita.

Fifita is the most high-profile name on the player market and has long been declared as the NRL's next $1 million (AUD 1.51 million) man.

The Queensland star has previously states his desire to remain at Red Hill long-term but remains unsigned beyond 2020 as kick-off to the new season nears.

Having been one of the clubs linked to Fifita throughout the off-season, the Gold Coast have become increasingly eager sit down with the 21-year-old, the Courier Mail reports.

"Absolutely, if he's available he's someone we'd love to talk to," Meninga declared.

"We're not talking at the moment. Dave has put everything on hold, he just wants to get his footy going.

"He's had an up-and-down off-season so I think he just wants to focus on his football and then at some stage he'll look to his future.

"We'll know through his manager whether he's right to talk or not."

Last year's wooden spooners, the Titans are determined to prove their critics wrong.

An overhaul of their coaching staff, spearheaded by the arrival of Super League-winning coach with St. Helens Justin Holbrook during the off-season, is hoped to rid the club of its 'cellar-dweller' tag.

And Meninga declared that the marquee signature of David Fifita would be a monumental coup for the league's youngest club.

However, Meninga knows there will be many factors more important than money at stake in Fifita's decision.

"I think he'd be really happy with the Broncos. They've nurtured him since he was a young boy and gave him every opportunity to be who he is at the moment," the former Maroons coach said.

"Obviously he's very family orientated. We hear that he doesn't want to venture too far from Brisbane, so I guess with those things in mind there's only really one other option for him and that's the Titans.

"We're a club on the up so if Dave becomes available and we're in the picture then we'll be certainly having those conversations.

"He's a marquee player and you can invest in a player like Dave for a long period of time. A bit like the Taumalolo's - you could build a team around [him].

"He would bring other talent to the club, but our junior systems are going really well, we've got a lot of talent on the Coast."
