"At the end of the day, the most important is everyone's mental health and wellbeing," he told Nine Radio.

"I'm not sure we could do five months away from our family, especially having young ones.

"(We could do) four or six weeks to start the competition and get it up and running and then hopefully the virus is under control and the lockdown starts to drop down in levels and maybe we can go back into our homes.

"ll the options are on the table and we all want to see rugby league succeed and get back on as soon as possible, not just the players, but all the staff that are involved and obviously the communities that love and support their teams."

Boyd is in his final NRL season after a stellar career that has seen him notch over 300 games as well as 28 State of Origin appearances for Queensland.

While he has enjoyed a fantastic career, the 32-year-old explained how he has "big ideas and aspirations" with what to do in the next stage of his life, saying he is interested in doing work in the mental health space.

"It's something that I'm very passionate about," he said.

"I've had struggles with my own mental health and it's (been) a bit in my family as well, so it's something that's pretty prevalent in society.

"With what we're going through now it's probably only going to get worse. I do a little bit of work now with the community and in the corporate space, and I've got some big ideas and aspirations with my life to do bigger and better things when I hang the boots up."
