Chicken and egg question goes back to ancient times, but there’s a simple answer

Chicken and egg question goes back to ancient times, but there’s a simple answer A scientist explains why technically it’s easy to explain which came first.Believe it or not, this question has its roots in ancient Greece, where philosophers used it as an excuse to argue about cause and effect. What’s more, it’s what is known as a paradox — a situation or statement that appears to present contradicting facts, both of which can logically be true.

The rugby league fraternity has been on the gravy train for too long and surely it's time the greatest game of all reverted back to its blue-collar heritage.

Whatever happened to the days of clubs relying on the support of their loyal members and the players working part-time jobs?

The NRL has instead become dependent on lucrative broadcast deals and exotic third-party payments, but the reality of this global health crisis means those days are gone.

The overspending at headquarters and the number of staff employed by the clubs is coming undone at the moment, with the game's finances unable to support the day-to-day running of these professional sporting clubs and organisations.

The National Rugby League isn't alone in it's fight for survival, when you consider Rugby Australia is forecasting a potential $120 million deficit and the AFL has been forced to borrow $600 million to survive the threat of coronavirus.

Everyday Australians are forced to live within their means, so why not these footy codes?

Thankfully, the professional athletes in these sports understand the impact of a global pandemic like coronavirus and they're prepared to take a haircut, but there are some individuals like Joey Leilua who need to think about the bigger picture.

The Wests Tigers recruit suggested last month, "I better not be taking a cut, because we've got mortgages to pay and bills to pay." Leilua also fired up about the mismanagement of the game's finances saying, "Without the players they don't have a game."

Million Dollar Collar – – rated 4.8 based on 24 reviews "Fine and smooth." The idea for Million Dollar Collar was born on a beach and proven over time. What do you think of the invention?

Well, let's get a couple of things straight, Joey.

Thousands of Australians are lining up at Centrelink to access money that'll be used to feed their families, so given you've still got a job, I'd be accepting whatever pay-cut is offered.

It's also worth pointing out, the reason why the players are earning an exorbitant amount of money is through broadcast deals, which make money through sponsors, who look at ratings; meaning the number of people or supporters watching the game.

So, before you start suggesting there isn't a game without the players, it's important to acknowledge you wouldn't be earning a wage if it wasn't for those fans paying their hard-earned money to support you.

Again, are we a blue-collar game or a code of multi-million-dollar whingers?

The reset button needed to be pressed a long time ago and I'm starting to see some positives coming out of a complete shutdown of the Telstra Premiership.

However, there were any number of notable, big dollar deals in the works long before residents were asked to shelter in place and non-essential businesses were ordered to close.

I wrote last week about the ridiculous number of support staff in the NRL clubs and when you consider the governing body was spending $500,000 a day to run the competition, it's no surprise the ARL Chairman Peter V'landys is shedding some of the dead weight.

I've always questioned why the ARL Commission, under chairman John Grant, approved the introduction of a digital department when it's in direct competition with Channel 9 and Fox Sports, who pay a premium to broadcast the game.

Let's not forget, it cost the league $150 million to apparently "future proof" the game.

Rugby league is one of the most resilient sporting codes in the world given it's survived two World Wars, the Depression and the Super League War, so they'll need to come up with something much tougher than coronavirus to bring us down.
