But with an ever-changing economy and a multi-generational workforce in which millennials, generation X and baby boomers are often eyeing the same positions, it's important for job seekers to also consider the competition associated with a job title.

(Photo by Mark Metcalfe/Getty Images) Rugby League Players Association boss Clint Newton said scrapping competition points from the opening two rounds of the season was, at the very least, worthy of a discussion, especially if a two-conference system was embraced by the game.

Within hours of Project Apollo chief Wayne Pearce back-tracking on claims teams could be forced to start from scratch whenever they return, there were suggestions Newton was the man who floated the idea at last Thursday's innovation committee meeting.

'That's a question for Peter': RLPA boss on players taking larger pay cut than NRL executive Clint Newton has confirmed union members will take a 46 per cent pay cut for the year. The NRL executive gave up about 25 per cent."That's a question for [chairman] Peter [V'landys] and the [ARL] Commission around whether they think it's fair,'' Newton said.

Fans and clubs alike erupted at the thought of teams being docked points they rightfully won across the opening fortnight of the NRL before the competition was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Newton fully supported clubs retaining points if it was decided the best proposal was for clubs to play each other once. But he said if there was an introduction of two conferences, that meant the merits of keeping the original points deserved to be debated.

"People have, all of a sudden, went into a meltdown over the thought of their team losing competition points, but there have been no detailed discussions about that, and no option was proposed,'' Newton said.

"We are yet to determine what the best structure is. However, everyone playing each other once and every team keeping their points is the fairest approach for now. That is something we would absolutely support.

Earlier in the week, reports surfaced that Greenberg and fellow executives would only be taking a 25% pay-cut while the players were set to forego 72% of their pay. require(["inlineoutstreamAd", "c.

Well Debating is itself an interesting thing the more you do the more you love it and more you become expert in it. Although there are lots of things to be kept in mind during debate as others have already said research, presentation etc. But few according to my experience are.

"If a conference-style structure were to be introduced, it opens up a discussion on how previously secured points get factored into the competition table.

"Given these unique set of circumstances that we are faced with, a conference-type structure may still be the best option, but this hasn't been properly worked through.

"What if you have two conferences, you're only playing seven rounds, maybe an additional derby round, plus finals, plus Origin and Test matches, then two or four competition points means you've got an advantage over your rivals.

"We need to be able to justify to the players and fans what our position on the point structure is regarding any points that have previously been accrued with a revised structure.''

When the matter of teams being stripped of competition points was discussed at last week's meeting, there were fears the TV networks might threaten to recoup their money for two rounds of a season that essentially became null and void.

The RLPA has formed a sub-committee that will meet on Wednesday to discuss the pros and cons of each proposal.

The group includes St George Illawarra's James Graham, Cronulla captain Wade Graham, Canberra's Sio Soliola, New Zealand Warriors playmaker Blake Green and Broncos skipper Alex Glenn, among others. Graham and his fellow Dragons could yet be lumped in the non-Sydney conference, which is entitled to upset a fair few of their players who live in Sydney.

The Project Apollo committee will reconvene on Thursday, which is expected to precede a phone hook-up with the 16 club CEOs.

Another issue expected to fall on Newton's desk in the coming weeks will be a competition that potentially excludes the Warriors and whether their players remain without pay - because of a government-enforced lockdown - while rivals at 15 clubs receive a fresh income.

Rookie Newcastle coach Adam O'Brien, who guided his team to back-to-back wins in the opening rounds, was unimpressed when he first learnt of the potential scrapping of points. He told the Herald on Monday: "Try telling poor Jayden Brailey that he did an ACL for nothing He went out and played the whole second half for his teammates and the two points knowing something was wrong. I couldn't look that kid in the eye if it was for nothing.''
