The rough flat beetle had not been sighted in the Bavarian Forest for 113 years and was considered extinct there. In autumn 2019, the forest scientist Jörg Müller discovered a specimen of the little crawlers in a spruce stump. A real jungle relic. In order for the beetle to survive, it needs above all plenty of dead wood with tree sponges.
