AFL legend and Hall of Fame member Terry Waters has died at the age of 76.

Collingwood announced on Tuesday night Waters - who captained the club for two seasons in 1970 and 1971 - had lost his battle with cancer.

Waters led Collingwood in goal-kicking twice across his 10-year career and earned an All-Australian selection in 1969.

The club great played in three Grand Finals - in 1964, 1966 and 1970 - but never won a premiership - losing on the sport's biggest stage by a collective total of just 15 points.

'Waters is survived by his wife Jane, son Tom and daughter Charlotte.
