Cronulla coach John Morris has revealed he may risk playing injured veteran Matt Moylan again this season amid reports the Sharks are looking to cut the former Penrith skipper loose.

The 29-year-old has managed just eight appearances in 2020 and is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury which was initially thought to be season-ending.

He is entering the final season of a high-price four-year deal having managed just 43 games since his arrival from the Panthers.

The Roar’s Super Rugby AU team of the season

The Roar’s Super Rugby AU team of the season After suggesting last week’s qualifying final was one of the best Australian derby games in years, it’s only fair to note that Saturday night’s final topped it in exactly the way you would hope. The Brumbies came into the decider in what could only be described as patchy form, despite winning two of the last three games after their bye. The Reds’ form had been superb, winning their last four and controlling the qualifying final over the Rebels like a team on the charge.

Moylan will reportedly earn $900,000 in 2021 and the Sharks are eager to free up salary cap space.

However, finding a suitor for the injury-plagued former NSW and Australia back could prove a challenge despite the Sharks’ reported willingness to pay some of his salary if he moves on.

If Moylan does switch clubs in 2021 he may not have yet played his last game for the Sharks.

Morris’ men are guaranteed a spot in the NRL finals but suffered a triple injury blow in Saturday’s 34-18 loss to the Sydney Roosters.

Shaun Johnson (achilles) and Royce Hunt (knee) are expected to miss the rest of the campaign while Josh Dugan appears set for a stint on the sidelines with a knee injury.

No team deserves the wooden spoon more than the Brisbane Broncos

No team deserves the wooden spoon more than the Brisbane Broncos I’ve long had a great deal of respect for the Brisbane Broncos. Obviously, with six premierships in their first 18 years of existence, it’s not hard to work out where that respect came from. Sure, they have all the advantages of being a one-team city and access to perhaps the greatest nursery in rugby league, but there are no guarantees in sport, so for the Broncos to build their club into a national juggernaut over 30 or so years is to be applauded. But it’s also why their fall from grace in 2020 has been met with so much mirth.

Councillors on Scotland’s Shetland Islands archipelago have voted in favor of exploring “financial and political self-determination” amid growing public funding cuts under Nicola Sturgeon's SNP government.

Speaking post-match, Morris conceded he may rethink his plans for Moylan if the Sharks progress to Week 2 of the NRL finals.

“Maybe now we have to change our tact,” Morris said.

“It was kind of a four-to-six-week injury but I suppose if you’re going to risk a hamstring you’d risk him in a finals series.

“It’s a grade two hamstring that he has so it’s a four-to-six week (recovery) as I said.

“To build his running back up to the high speeds that he needs, you can’t really rush that but if it’s closer to the four weeks I suppose he’d be in with a chance.

“Probably not for the first week, we’d probably have to win our first final for him to be in with a chance so Week 2, maybe.”
