Peter V ' landys has cleared several hurdles to get the NRL on the brink of resuming its season. But, if the tab has not yet come, V ' landys already seems to have secured his reputation only months after putting his feet under the ARLC desk by fulfilling a once mundane task — getting a game on.

With Queensland closing its borders, ARLC Chairman Peter V ' landys joined NRL 360 and said the border closure won't affect the NRL, with the risk being less

This weekend is meant to be the greatest weekend of some little kids lives, as they play in their junior rugby league grand final.

For some older boys and girls, it's the chance to do something special with your mates that you'll talk about over a beer for the next 20 years.

But this year, there are some guidelines in place that have left the community in uproar.

On Sunday, NSWRL announced their plan for the upcoming junior league grand finals, which will allow only one spectator per player permitted into the ground.

Petition Against Replacing Ginsburg Until Election Gets More Than 475K Signatures in Under a Day

Petition Against Replacing Ginsburg Until Election Gets More Than 475K Signatures in Under a Day The petition, created late Friday night, asks the U.S. Senate not to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg with under 50 days left to the election."Ruth Bader Ginsburg's dying wish was that her Supreme Court seat not be filled until a new president was installed. She was a champion for gender equality, among other issues rooted in fairness and justice for all. With less than 50 days until the election and voting already underway in many states, it's important that we demand all senators pledge not to move forward with any nominee until after the next inauguration," MoveOn.org said in its petition.

Along with that rule, there are others - including the baffling decision to outlaw team songs after the game.

  • No team songs permitted
  • No handshakes
  • No speeches
  • No medal presentations
  • One parent per player
  • No use of change rooms

I have been involved with junior league my entire life, from playing to coaching to running the water for my local A Grade side, Penshurst RSL.

This year has been truly bizarre for many reasons, but the work of the NSWRL to get junior footy back up and running can't be dismissed.

Each player has their own personal waterbottle, everyone has been made to sign in at the ground and there are restrictions around when trainers and coaching staff can enter the field of play. All of these rules have worked well and it has been a rather seamless season considering everything that is happening.

But now after 10 rounds and on the eve of grand finals, the governing body want to make changes that is going to lock people who love the game out and put a downer on a great weekend.

Having been down at local footy every Saturday for the past 10 weeks, I can tell you right now that there were plenty of spectators there - far more than one per player in most cases.

If these rules weren't in place or enforced for the entire season, where there are limited volunteers on duty and people coming from everywhere, how can they possibly bring them in for the grand final? If anything, it should be easier with more volunteers from junior associations working on grand final day.

It is also a clear double standard, with the NRL pushing for 50% capacity at games in the upcoming semi finals.

With all of this taken into account, there is now a petition to overturn these rules, and within 24 hours it has gained almost 8,000 signatures, and that number is only going to rise.

The petition was started by a mother of three sons, Amy Smith, who said the following.

"We live in a complicated society during this pandemic and we appreciate the ongoing work of all Junior Leagues to allow our kids to play their sport," she said.

"What is challenging is the restrictions released for the end of the season grand finals. Not only are we living in a pandemic but we are dealing with serious mental health issues amongst our kids and a very high suicide rate.

"To only allow one parent to the grand final puts tremendous pressure on kids to choose which parent. For kids this doesn’t make sense when NRL games can have 25% capacity of spectators in large venues. These are the venues our kids play at for their grand finals. For example the Manly Jnr League plays at Brookvale Oval. A venue that can easily have social distancing.

"Many kids are from families of separated parents, why should the kids have choose which parent attends. Why should the kids have to deal with such pressure. Not all separated families get along.

"Give the kids their team song and the comradery  that goes with this, they have just spent an entire football game tackling each other.

"We ask that NSW Rugby League reconvenes with NSW Health for more appropriate guidelines."

According to The Daily Telegraph, ARLC chairman Peter V'landys is looking to intervene and find a solution.

Everyone involved understands how serious the pandemic is - but these rules make absolutely no sense. Grassroots footy is the lifeblood of the game, and without it there is no NRL.
