Police have closed their investigation into a malicious online campaign against ex-Brisbane Broncos coach Anthony Seibold.

The 46-year-old was the victim of vile and unsubstantiated rumours that went viral on social media in the final weeks of his failed Broncos tenure.

Seibold hired a team of cyber security experts in a bid to track down the individuals responsible.

He subsequently appeared on 60 Minutes and suggested one of the alleged perpetrators was a current NSW Rugby League employee.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, three other individuals, including a former Kangaroos player and ex-first-grade referee were subsequently identified as persons of interest.

However, the Engagement and Hate Crime Unit this week closed their investigation without laying any charges.
