Former Storm and Dragons star Gareth Widdop has reportedly been offered to the North Queensland Cowboys for an NRL comeback.

Widdop's management and his Super League club Warrington have contacted numerous NRL clubs recently to gauge interest, according to The Daily Telegraph, and the Cowboys have become a surprise front-runner for the five-eighth's signature.

The Cowboys are set to lose young playmaker Jake Clifford to the Knights on a two-year deal, which was announced on Tuesday. The club had negotiated with Benji Marshall but no deal came to fruition.

Widdop, 31, would be a strong option for any club but the Telegraph reported that initial interest was lukewarm due to his price tag. The English ace was on about $1 million per season at the Dragons and would need to cop a pay cut of about 50 per cent to make an NRL return, for next season at least.

Rugby league has always evolved to mirror success and Australia' s NRL is the market leader on the field with its adherence to highly disciplined structure and low-risk plays. But should that be the English way? The game over here used to pride itself on its risk-takers and chance-makers.

Test player Michael Morgan is North Queensland's top playmaker, while Scott Drinkwater is also on the books. The Cowboys are reluctant to release Clifford without adding another half.

Widdop signed with Warrington on a three-year deal but his stay in the Super League may be short-lived. His top-flight rugby league career began with Melbourne in 2010 before a move to St George Illawarra for 2014.

Widdop was Dragons captain and the club had first dibs on him under the terms of his release to the Super League, but he won't return to the Red V. A touted swap deal with Warrington for Corey Norman was previously scuppered.

Airlines are adapting their premium lounges to the new realities of pandemic flying as their top travellers remain largely grounded. Each airline has its own approach but all are centered around health and safety first followed by a gradual ramp-up of the amenities that flyers expect. We visited the airport lounges of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines to see how the lounge experience has changed. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Access to airport lounges is a top perk for frequent flyers and those who pay top dollar to sit in the premium cabins of an airliner.
