New Zealand v Australia: Jhye Richardson still re-learning how to throw as he continues international comeback The 24-year-old is slowing returning to full fitness after dislocating his shoulder in 2019Richardson was picked in Australia's T20 squad to face New Zealand after a dominant Big Bash campaign, taking a tournament-best 29 wickets at an average of 16.31.

Talented opening batsman Will Pucovski has been ruled out for the rest of the domestic season after opting to undergo shoulder surgery.

The 23-year-old injured his shoulder during his Test debut against India at the SCG in January.

He suffered a shoulder subluxation in the field on day five as he attempted to stop a ball in the field, landing awkardly and being forced from the ground.

He was kept in the Australian squad for the fourth Test at the Gabba however a few days before that match he was ruled out.

Pucovski was named in Australia's 19-man Test squad for the postponed tour of South Africa, suggesting that he could have played through the pain.

Vastly improved England are charging towards the Ashes

Vastly improved England are charging towards the Ashes England were demolished on their last two tours of Australia but, as evidenced by their three wins on the trot in Asia, they’re now building a side that can compete in this year’s Ashes. The last two series in Australia were bloodbaths as the hosts bullied England to the tune of 4-0 and 5-0. And the Aussies were only one wicket away from a 3-1 win last time around in the UK. England have improved significantly since that 2019 series, however. And the team they send to Australia this summer will be far stronger than the feeble unit that last toured here. England have rebounded with vigour from a horror 2019.

However, with that series no longer going ahead and a massive Ashes series coming up at the end of 2021, Pucovski has opted to have the surgery now so he can start rehabilitating as soon as possible.

Cricket Victoria expect that full recovery from the surgery could take anywhere up to six months.

That means that Pucovski won't feature for Victoria in any of their Marsh Cup matches or in the second half of their Sheffield Shield season.

It has given the opportunity for Nic Maddinson to return to the opening position where he has made so many runs in red-ball cricket over the last 18 months.

Cricket Victoria confirmed in a statement on Thursday the decision to send Pucovski to surgery to repair his shoulder.

"Victorian batsman Will Pucovski will undergo shoulder surgery, ending his domestic season," the statement read.

"Cricket Victoria can confirm the 23 year old will have his right shoulder reconstructed after injuring it during his Test debut in January.

"His recovery is expected to take four to six months."

Shaun Graf, Cricket Victoria's General Manager of Cricket believes it's the best course of action to ensure Pucovski was ready for next season.

"The medical advice is this is the best way forward for Will to prepare him for the 2021-22 season," Graf said.

"We'll work closely with Will throughout his rehabilitation and look forward to seeing him back playing for Victoria and Australia later this year."

It continues Pucovski's disappointing run with injury that has seen him miss a lot of cricket throughout his young career.

He has had a long history of concussions that saw him miss his Test debut on several occasions.

In the Australia A match against the Indians at Drummoyne Oval in December, Pucovski was hit on the head by a bouncer later on day three.

That knock ruled him out of Australia A's second tour match and the first two Tests of the Indian series.
