The golf star crashed his car at 7:12 a.m. local time when he was traveling north on Hawthorne Boulevard alone. The vehicle was badly damaged, another was not involved.

Tiger Woods has tweeted his gratitude from his hospital bed after players at the World Golf Championships donned red shirts in his honour.

Woods, who is recovering after suffering serious leg injuries in a car crash last week, told his 6.5 million followers just how much seeing the tribute was helping his recovery.

"It is hard to explain how touching today was when I turned on the TV and saw all the red shirts," Woods wrote.

"To every golfer and every fan, you are truly helping me get through this tough time."

Woods made the red short and black pants combo his Sunday trademark during a career which saw him win 15 majors.

Woods is reportedly in "serious" condition at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

On Sunday, US PGA champion Collin Morikawa emulated Woods with victory, but not with his attire.

Morikawa had planned to wear the red shirt and black pants combo, but his clothes did not arrive in time.

But he had the game as he saw off the challenges of Brooks Koepka (70), Viktor Hovland (67) and Billy Horschel (70), finishing three shots clear after carding a closing 69 at The Concession Golf Club to finish 18-under par.

He became the 24th player to win a major and a WGC title since this series began in 1999, joining Woods as the only players to win both before turning 25.

In his interview, he paid tribute to Woods, his golf idol growing up.

"We don't say 'Thank you' enough," Morikawa said, referring to how much Woods has raised the sport's profile and prize money.

Tiger Woods' ex says she was 'shaken' after finding out his crash

Tiger Woods' ex says she was 'shaken' after finding out his crash Tiger Woods' ex-girlfriend, Rachel Uchitel, has spoken out after his horror crash saying she's "shaken." Uchitel, whose infamous affair with the then-married golfer made headlines all around the world in 2009, told E! News the most important thing is that he's okay. "Thank God it's a non-life-threatening injury," she said. "He's one of the greatest athletes in the world and we've been seeing him in one of the greatest sports comebacks in history.""It's going to be interesting to see what happens," she added, urging people to not judge him preemptively for the single-car crash.

He also mentioned his grandfather dying a month ago and began to get emotional.

There were red numbers on the board and on the course, while several players, including Australian Jason Day, wore red.

"Obviously just paying respect to Tiger," Day said after finishing tied 18th at seven-under following a final-round even-par 72.

Tony Finau took it an extra step by arriving at Concession with his cap turned backward.

"Red and black, we know that's what Tiger does on Sundays, so just to join in and just let Tiger know we're supporting him in the best way we can," Finau said.

"We're still playing and we miss him out here, but it was cool just to be a part of that."

Cameron Smith rebounded from his horror third round to card a closing five-under 67 to be the best of the Australians in a share of 11th, eight shots behind Morikawa.

It was another promising showing ahead of next month's Masters for Smith, after the 2020 Augusta National runner-up was fourth at the Genesis Invitational.
