The team lists for NRL Round Five are in and it looks like veteran Benji Marshall will play a key role for the Rabbitohs this weekend when he takes over for the suspended Cody Walker in the halves.

But with Marshall shifting from the bench and into the starting side, coach Wayne Bennett has named young gun halfback Dean Hawkins to take over the No.14 jersey off the interchange.

Hawkins' inclusion will be his first-grade debut, but the timing couldn't be more awkward with first-choice halfback and captain, Adam Reynolds, currently at loggerheads with the Rabbitohs over the length of a contract extension, which could see the skipper walk to the Cowboys if a new deal isn't agreed upon.

A Terrible Conundrum for the AstraZeneca Vaccine

A Terrible Conundrum for the AstraZeneca Vaccine For the moment, reports of a very rare, dangerous blood disorder among recipients cannot be ignored. That’s why the past few weeks have felt so catastrophic.

In other team news, the Knights will welcome back star fullback Kalyn Ponga, who makes his way back from shoulder surgery. The Knights were decimated with injuries last weekend after Mitchell Pearce (pectoral), Tex Hoy (hamstring) and Kurt Mann (concussion) all went down.

While the Cowboys have named wrecking-ball Jason Taumalolo, who looks set to make his way back from a fractured hand suffered last month.

Where will Adam Reynolds be playing in 2022? Ranking the champion halfback's likely destination

Where will Adam Reynolds be playing in 2022? Ranking the champion halfback's likely destination It's the debate that has dominated the headlines to start the 2021 season and Adam Reynolds' future at South Sydney appears less certain by the day. In a bombshell revelation made on the eve of the new campaign, the Rabbitohs captain and halfback told Sporting News he and the club were not on the same page in negotiations over a contract beyond this year. The news blindsided many, given Reynolds' stature within the Rabbitohs community and the important hand he has played in the club's 2014 drought-breaking premiership and getting the club to whether it is today as a powerhouse of the NRL.

Adam Reynolds kicks NRL's first ever two-point field goal to add to contract confusion

Reynolds became the first player to kick a two-point field goal from beyond the 40 metre line, after the NRL introduced the rule over the off-season. After scoring a try and kicking the conversion to put his side ahead 16-6 minutes earlier, Reynolds smashed a long-range field goal with seconds ticking down before the half-time siren to further put the dagger in the Broncos.
