Jerome Boateng will end a decade-long stay at Bayern Munich after sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed the all-conquering Germans will not extend the defender's contract.

The 32-year-old's future has been clouded by uncertainty for months, with his current deal at the Allianz Arena coming to an end this summer amid interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.

Reports in Germany had suggested Bayern would not offer Boateng new terms, and now club chief Salihamidzic has confirmed that is the case and the centre half will be released at the end of the season.

'Jerome's contract expires in the summer. It will not be extended,' Salihamidzic told Sky Germany.

'That was a joint decision of the club management and the coach was also involved. I explained that to Jerome and he was very understanding. He leaves through a big door - hopefully with titles.'

Boateng has made more than 350 appearances for the German giants since joining them from Manchester City a decade ago.

Since returning to his homeland in 2011 he has helped Bayern win the Bundesliga eight times, the German Cup and the German Super Cup on five occasions as well as the Champions League plus the FIFA Club World Cup twice.

The German champions have moved to secure the arrival of RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano, beating the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea to the signing of the £38.5m Frenchman.

Boateng came on as a first half substitute in Wednesday night's Champions League quarter final first leg defeat to Paris Saint Germain, replacing the injured Niklas Sule.
