Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been ruled out of Sweden's Euro 2020 campaign as a result of the veteran requiring six weeks worth of treatment on a knee injury.

The AC Milan striker was forced off in the 3-0 win against Juventus last weekend and the concerns that he would miss out this summer have now been officially realised.

Despite Ibrahimovic not needing surgery on the problem, Sweden boss Janne Andersson has now confirmed he will not be available for selection.

'I spoke to Zlatan Ibrahimovic today, who unfortunately told me his injury will prevent his participation in the European Championship this summer,' Andersson said.

Lukaku: Ibrahimovic is good for Serie A

Lukaku: Ibrahimovic is good for Serie A Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku clashed angrily this season but the Inter star believes his Milan rival is good for Italian football.Lukaku had to be dragged away from Ibrahimovic after the Milan striker apparently insulted his mother during January's Coppa Italia derby.

'Of course it is sad, especially for Zlatan, but for us too. I hope that he is back on the pitch again as soon as possible.'

Ibrahimovic was seen fighting for possession in the middle of the pitch at the Allianz Stadium last weekend before falling to the turf and holding his left knee.

Despite trying to play on in Turin, Ibrahimovic, 39, was unable to continue and had been begrudgingly hauled off whilst shaking his head.

In an attempt to discover the extent of his setback, Ibrahimovic then visited Volker Mushal, a renowned surgeon, in Pittsburgh.

Mushal was the doctor who carried out the operation on the veteran ace's serious knee injury during his time at Manchester United in 2017.

He made his emotional, and surprise, return for Sweden during March's World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Kosovo.

Having brazenly announced his comeback as the 'return of God', Ibrahimovic set up the only goal in the 1-0 over Georgia and picked up two more assist against Kosovo.

Fresh from his heroics, he joked he was the 'new King' of Sweden.

Ibrahimovic scored 62 goals in 116 internationals before announcing his retirement following his country's group stage elimination at Euro 2016.

Sweden coach Janne Andersson flew out to meet the experienced frontman in Milan to set in motion the homecoming.

'First and foremost, he is a very good football player, the best we have had in Sweden,' Andersson later told the media.

'It is of course very funny that he wants to come back. In addition to what he can contribute on the pitch, he has incredible experience and can contribute it to other players in the team.'

Sweden will now take on Spain, Poland and Slovakia in Group E next month without their towering talisman.
