'I tried to look at the bench and nobody called me. Then Johnny Achterberg (goalkeeping coach) called me with conviction. It was the perfect time, the cross was brilliant again.

'I just try to put my head on the ball and I think it was one of the best goals I saw! The best I have scored! I'm really happy, I don't have too many words - I just have to say thank you for the players.

'They fight a lot, we fight a lot. We are really exhausted from this season because everything happened, missing the goal, but I'm happy it happened tonight for the win.

'I saw it coming. Just tried to be in a good position. Nobody followed me and I was blessed to score. Those kind of things you can't explain. For me the only reasons for these type of things is God. He put his hand on my head today and I'm feeling really blessed.'

The Brazilian's father, Jose Agostinho Becker, 57, was found dead by a lake on the family's ranch near the town of Lavras do Sul in southern Brazil in February.

He is thought to have got into difficulties after going for a swim in the lake, although he often practiced underwater fishing and diving at the family's country holiday property just over 200 miles away from their main home in Novo Hamburgo.

His widow Magali and son Muriel, 34, the goalkeeper of Rio de Janeiro club Fluminense, were among the mourners at his funeral but Alisson was left devastated after he was unable to attend due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

'I've been away from interviews for a long time because always when I talk about it I get emotional,' he said.

'If it wasn't for you I couldn't get through this. This is the way God loves us, through people. The celebration, I don't know how to celebrate.

'Hopefully I don't need to come so many times to the box to score a goal!'
