Canterbury Bulldogs fullback Nick Meaney will move to the Melbourne Storm in 2022, signing a two-year deal with the club.

The 23-year-old has played 55 NRL games across stints with the Bulldogs and Knights, playing all across the backline.

Storm general manager of football Frank Ponissi said Meaney's versatility was a major factor in his signing.

“We see a lot of upside in Nick,” he said.

"His ability to play a number of positions in the backline is definitely a plus and we’ve had outstanding feedback on his work ethic and character.

“We believe that not only will Storm be good for his football, having him at AAMI Park will be good for us.

“We look forward to seeing Nick run out in the purple jersey next year.”

Meaney likely won't be playing fullback with Ryan Papenhuyzen at the helm, but could fill the void left by utility Nicho Hynes .

His departure from the Bulldogs could further open the door for Matt Dufty , who has been linked with a move to Belmore in recent weeks.

Canterbury CEO Aaron Warburton thanked Meaney for his service during his time at the Bulldogs.

”We wish Nick all the best with his decision to join the Storm next season," he said.

"Nick has always worked hard and been truly committed to the cause here at Belmore and we would like to thank him for that and wish him and his family all the best with the move to Melbourne.

"I know that Nick will now focus all his energies on playing hard for the Bulldogs for the rest of the 2021 season.”
