Geelong chief executive Steve Hocking has confirmed Ross Lyon won't be part of Chris Scott's coaching staff next season.

Reports earlier this month suggested the Cats had sounded out Lyon's availability.

Hocking, who was previously the AFL's general manager of football, revealed Lyon was "one of a number of people" the club had spoken with.

"Chris (Scott) and Ross (Lyon) go back a long way," Hocking told SEN.

"We just talked through a whole host of things, including what he's done in other programs.
