Sydney Roosters veteran Michael Gordon is set to replace Jarryd Hayne on the Gold Coast next season, according to reports.

Gordon’s likely move continues the NRL’s never-ending game of sliding doors, with Wests Tigers full-back James Tedesco now at the Roosters and Hayne heading back to Parramatta.

The Titans confirmed persistent rumours Hayne wanted out of his $1.2 million deal to return home to the Eels last week, granting him a release to take up a reported $500,000 contract with the Blue and Golds.

While Hayne’s 18-month stint on the Glitter Strip is widely considered a disaster, his absence still leaves a sizeable hole on the Titans’ roster.

Gordon has been on the lookout for a new club since Tedesco’s arrival at Bondi on a multi-year deal.

The Chooks have given him permission to investigate other offers and the 34-year-old is keen to join Garth Brennan’s Titans.

He is close to inking a two-year deal after approaching Brennan last week, according to The Courier Mail.

The goal-kicking full-back/winger had a solid season with the Tri Colours in 2017 after a one-year cameo with Parramatta in 2016.

He made his NRL debut for Penrith in 2006 before joining Cronulla on a three-year deal in 2013.

Gordon also made one State of Origin appearance for NSW in 2010.
