Allan 'Alfie' Langer shared a beer and a laugh with Paul Green just one hour after breaking his thumb in a feisty on-field bust up, the rugby league great has revealed after the halfback's death.

Green spent the early days of his playing career struggling to display his considerable talents due to Langer's irreplaceable status at the Brisbane Broncos.

Despite the pair both vying for the same position, they formed a great friendship which was built on their fiercely competitive mindsets, and in the wake of Green's sudden death on Thursday, Langer has shone a light on one incident which perfectly encapsulates the pair's friendship.

Celebs who won’t leave their fortunes to their children

Celebs who won’t leave their fortunes to their children When it comes to millionaire and billionaire celebrities, many of us imagine that their children will inherit their fortune. Indeed, this is the way wealth has traditionally been handled and it continues to be a popular way of keeping the wealth among the already rich and famous. However, there are some famous people who, for one reason or another, have pledged or plan to pledge the majority of their fortune to charitable causes, rather than handing it down to their children. Of course, in many cases these celebrities' children will still receive a tidy sum: many of the individuals on this list have a net worth so high that a lot of cash will be left over even after the majority is given away. However, it nonetheless says something about these stars' values that they are choosing to divert the majority of their wealth in a direction other than their family's. Check out this gallery to find out which celebs won't leave their fortunes to their offspring.

'I'll never forget that day at ANZ Stadium when he hit me a late and I gave him a bit of a clip and I came out second best with a broken thumb,' he told the Courier Mail. 'But after the game we had a beer. We have told that story a lot over the years.

'We were really fierce competitors during a game but would always have a beer afterwards. He was a great competitor in anything he did in life.'

News of Green's death has rocked the rugby league world and Langer is no exception, with the 54-year-old admitting he 'cried' when he learnt of his old friend's passing.

'Andrew Gee rung with the news (of Green's death) this morning,' Langer said.

'I was at home by myself and I cried. It's just devastating. I still cannot believe it. He had been going so well and enjoying life. I saw him recently at Andrew Gee's wedding and really enjoyed his company.

'I can't stop thinking about his lovely wife and kids. Greeny and I shared a lot of great times.'

Green and Langer would go head to head long after they finished their playing careers, with the 54-year-old an assistant of Wayne Bennett's for the 2015 Grand Final between the Broncos and Langer's North Queensland Cowboys.

A Johnathan Thurston field goal clinched a famous victory for the Townsville side - the club's first premiership in their history - and Langer revealed how he swallowed his pride to congratulate his great mate.

'I never normally go in the winner's room but it was something I felt I had to do. He was a great competitor and we were great friends.

'When he coached State of Origin he was pretty serious and intense and I was there to take the heat off him. He was a great bloke and we will all miss him.'
