Although it lasted just 10 seconds, it made the star appear about 1,000 times brighter than usual and was about 10 times brighter than the most impressive flares from our sun that scientists have studied. All-Australian forward Toby Greene has committed to Greater Western Sydney for the next six seasons, effectively making him a Giant for life.

Signing on the 24-year-old to a long-term deal before the season starts is a significant bonus for the Giants after they had to deal with constant speculation about the future of Josh Kelly last season.

Kelly stayed with the club on a two-year deal, knocking back nine-year contract offers from other clubs.

The Age was able to confirm the length of Greene's deal with the Giants expected to announce Greene's signing at a midday press conference on Tuesday.

Greene won the club's 2016 best and fairest and became recognised as one of the game's elite players.

He continued his good form in 2017 but was suspended twice for undisciplined acts.

Greene remains touch and go to play round one after breaking a toe on his off-season break in New York.
