NRL legend Billy Slater is still unsure about his playing future.

The Melbourne Storm veteran will bring up his 300th appearance for the club on Saturday against the Wests Tigers, and the fullback is solely focused on his performance on the field in his first game of the year.

The 34-year-old is returning from a shoulder injury sustained in the World Club Challenge, but it has been confirmed he will take the field at AAMI Park.

After a fairly comfortable win against the Bulldogs in round one without Slater, Melbourne will be very confident about maintaining their unbeaten start to the season against a rising Wests Tigers outfit with the star fullback in the mix.

"I've always said that this will probably be my last year.

"But you want to be definite. You don't want to go, out make a statement before you've even played a game this year.

"I didn't know what last year had in store for me either, I just wanted to be sure.

"I was sure at the end of last year that I wanted to be playing and I felt like I could contribute to the Melbourne Storm.

"That's why I'm still here this year. I feel good at training.

"That decision will be made sometime during the season."

BILLY SLATER REFLECTS ON 300 NRL GAMES

"I'm extremely proud to play 300 games in the NRL," Slater said.

"There have only been 30 players to have done it in its history, I'll become the 31st player.

"Very proud achievement.

"It's taken me three and a half years to play 30 games, I notched up the first 270 pretty quick and the last few years it's been a little bit slow.

"That makes it that little bit more special."

His coach at the Storm, Craig Bellamy, had some unbelievable praise for his veteran fullback.

"He's certainly the best I've seen, couldn't imagine too many better fullbacks with Billy," Bellamy said.

"Billy changed the way fullbacks played the game.

"Some of the things he started doing, it's been a great example for other young players."
