Fifita has a badly swollen left knee and bruising on the bone but that prognosis will be welcomed with open arms by coach Shane Flanagan.

Onlookers feared the worst when he limped from the field at the end of the first half, suffering the injury after carrying the ball up in the loss to the Dragons on Friday night.

Flanagan told NRL.com the injury is not as serious as first thought for the now Tongan international.

"In regards to Andrew, his ACL has not been damaged but he's got no PCL (posterior cruciate ligament), or the little he had left of that has torn,” Flanagan said.

"It means his knee is unstable and went from underneath him because of not having that PCL. So the first diagnosis (suspected torn ACL) was wrong, thank God.

"He does have some bone bruising so we have to see how that settles over the next couple of days and by Tuesday I'll have a better idea.

"At this stage he could be right next weekend or he could be out for a month."

Meantime, fellow Sharks prop Matt Prior will play against Penrith in round seven after only receiving a grade one charge for a high shot on Dragons enforcer James Graham.

With an early guilty plea, Prior will cop a $1350 fine and avoid suspension.

“That’s massive news for us,” Flanagan said.

But co-captains Paul Gallen and Wade Graham won’t be right for the Panthers clash or the meeting with the Titans the following week, as a minimum.

Gallen will undergo further examination when he has scans on a right knee injury on Sunday, while Graham had scans on Saturday on a hamstring problem that will see him miss between two and four games.

"And while Gal hasn't been scanned yet, we're pretty sure it's medial ligament damage so depending on a grade one tear, grade two or three, that will determine how long he is out. But we know he's out for the next couple of weeks,” Flanagan added.
