St Kilda's Dylan Roberton will not be able to play football or even exercise for the next two weeks, as he continues to undergo testing to determine the cause of his troubling on-field collapse.

The 26-year-old fell to the ground with no one around him during the second quarter of the Saints' loss to Geelong at GMHBA Stadium, reporting dizziness. He walked from the field unaided.

St Kilda football boss Simon Lethlean said on Monday that it still appeared an irregular heartbeat was to blame for the incident, but that was not yet certain as tests are ongoing.

“There’s a number of tests to take as standard procedure for any heart related issues that will take 1-2 weeks. We’ll monitor those results closely,” Lethlean said.

“Those results will dictate where he goes thereafter. There will be no exercise in the meantime.”

He had an ultrasound on Monday afternoon and the club was still waiting for those results in the evening. He left hospital in Geelong for home in Melbourne on Monday evening but must rest for two weeks as more tests are completed.

"So got the all clear and a few more tests during the week back in Melbourne. I just remember watching the ball go out and getting dizzy but that's about it.

"It was more the heartbeat ... I'll find out more during the week."

Lethlean said earlier in the day that Roberton did not have a history of heart problems nor had he ever complained about irregularities.

"It's nothing that has been historical for him, I think the doctors described it as an irregularity in the heartbeat but it's just the on the spot diagnosis from what Dylan said he felt faint and dizzy and just blacked out. He then had some test and they noticed some irregularity in his pulse," he told RSN.

He had no knocks or problems in the game prior to collapsing and was in good health.

St Kilda coach Alan Richardson visited Roberton after the game, while his teammates have been getting constant updates about his condition.

"To see a guy collapse is a far different scenario ... it quite rightly shook a few of the players up. It certainly shakes you up."

Roberton's collapse comes weeks after Collingwood player Kayle Kirby collapsed in similar fashion in a VFL game. He also was suffering from some form of irregular heartbeat.
