Former Western Bulldogs forward Stewart Crameri has broken down while explaining his feelings during the Bulldogs’ victorious 2016 Grand Final.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s On The Mark, Crameri, who at the time was serving a 12-month ban as a part of the ‘Essendon 34’, spoke about his mixed emotions as his teammates approached victory.

“I realised halfway through the last quarter that the boys were actually going to do it and it was quite hard to watch,” Crameri said.

“I just felt like I should’ve been there and should’ve been playing, but I wasn’t.

“I went out to the front and said: ‘I just need five minutes to reflect on it, be upset – whatever you have to be – just to make sure I can come back and not be upset about it and when I see the guys I’m really happy for them and go on from there’,” he said.

Like many of his Essendon teammates have in the past, Crameri maintained his innocence while describing the ordeal of going through the supplements saga.

“When there was 32 players innocent, to get a guilty verdict was bloody hard to take,” he said.

“All the pressure that gets put on all the other people at the club. It was really hard to see all these great people were going through all this stuff and they were getting slaved through the media and they were my friends.

“For someone to be guilty of something when they’re innocent, it’s just really hard to take.

“If you’re guilty then that’s fair enough but when you didn’t intentionally do anything wrong, I think that’s the hardest part.”
