They managed to beat a star-studded New South Wales team 3-0, and before the game Gillmeister said he was hoping this year's team could show some similar spirit.

'The key is to tell them not to play their game too early and things like that. The beauty about it all is you never know what is going to happen, and that's Origin. We don't know for sure who is going to handle it and who isn't.'

Gillmeister's tumble came as Queensland appears to be losing their previously iron-like grip on the series, having won nine of the last ten series before this year.
