Tariq Sims has always been a combustible character and it was a brain explosion that made his mark on his State of Origin debut in the worst way possible.

After a career full of close calls Sims finally got to pull on a sky blue jumper at the age of 28.

With the Blues up 12-8 and riding a wave of momentum Sims single-handedly turned it back towards the Queenslanders after he was put on his back by his Dragons teammate.

After getting up to play the ball, Sims grabbed hold of the Maroons utility and drove him back before dumping him into the turf.

It sparked a bit of a melee as players from both sides ran in to sort things out but crucially it turned over possession, with referee Gerard Sutton rightly blowing a penalty against Sims, stopping NSW from rolling into attack with tackles up their sleeve.
