Canterbury Bulldogs hooker Zac Woolford has signed a one-year deal with the Newcastle Knights for the 2019 season.

Woolford played a key role in the Bulldogs' charge to the State Championship title in 2018.

He was named man of the match in Canterbury's NSW Intrust Super Premiership grand final win over Newtown at Leichhardt Oval.

The 22-year-old is the son of former Raiders captain Simon Woolford.

Prior to his time at the Bulldogs, Woolford was a Raiders junior and played in their under 20s team.

"Like his father, he has great knowledge of the game.

"Due to a jaw injury early in the year, he was unlucky to not have already made his NRL debut.

"We're confident he can reach his potential with us and excited to see where that leads."

Woolford believes the Knights are on the cusp of success.

"I'm stoked to be moving to Newcastle," Woolford added.

"It's a club on the up, with young guys who want to win, like I do.

"My dad was there recently so I visited the town quite a bit and loved it there.

"It's a good opportunity and a good fit."
