Sydney will retain Kurt Tippett on the club's rookie list in 2019 after reaching a deal with the forward/ruckman, who effectively retired from AFL football before the 2018 season.

The Swans have delisted Tippett and have committed to re-drafting him on the club's rookie list, in a move that will save Sydney some money in the club 's salary cap, although Tippett will still receive a significant payment for 2019.

Tippett had been contracted until the end of 2020 - in effect, having a further three years to run on the contract when he decided not to continue playing with the Swans as a result of injuries.

Hamilton wants to get "close" to Schumacher's records

Hamilton wants to get Newly-crowned five-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has targeted at least getting “close” to Michael Schumacher’s all-time records over the remainder of his career. Hamilton moved level with Juan Manuel Fangio on five titles with his latest championship victory last Sunday in Mexico, which means only seven-time Schumacher stands ahead of him in the all-time list. With 71 wins and 132 podiums Hamilton is zeroing in on the German’s win (91) and podium (155) records, having long surpassed Schumacher’s pole record.

Injured Swan Kurt Tippett is set to remain with the Swans in 2019 The club announced today that they had delisted Kurt Tippett ahead of the rookie draft, with the intention to re-draft him as per their agreement. The agreement was reached in January this year and announced almost 10 months ago.

Clearly, Tippett has accepted a deal in which he will be paid only a portion of that contract. Tippett was understood to have a contract that would have paid him more than $2 million over those three years, but the Swans will not have to pay him for 2020 and will wipe the slate clean after retaining him on the rookie list in 2019.

The Swans felt it was preferable to keep Tippett on the rookie list. Typically a club saves about $80,000 from their salary cap when re-drafting an expensive player on to their rookie list.

Under the AFL rules, a player must remain on one of the lists - senior or rookie - if he is being paid.

The Swans could not reach a settlement and pay Tippett, who joined the club after the 2012 flag on a huge contract, without keeping him on the list, despite the reality that he will not play for them again.

The Swans are considering signing ex-Geelong forward Daniel Menzel as a delisted free agent, with the club having given Menzel a medical on Wednesday.

Aside from the four knee reconstructions Menzel has overcome, the talented forward has had groin issues this year. Geelong chose not to offer him a contract, in part due to his weakness as a defensive player, despite booting 40 goals in 2017 and averaging 2.1 goals per game this year.

A statement from the Swans on Friday said: "The Sydney Swans have today delisted Kurt Tippett.

"In keeping with AFL rules and regulations, it is the club’s intention to re-draft Tippett in the upcoming AFL rookie draft so that the club can fulfil the terms of an agreed settlement.

"Tippett, who retired from AFL football in January 2018 due to injury problems, is not fit for football and has no intention of returning to the AFL.

"With this statement we consider the matter closed. No parties will make any further comment."

APEC 2018: Regional meeting ends in disarray as leaders fail to reach consensus on communique.
The APEC meeting in Papua New Guinea has ended in disarray, with regional leaders unable to reach a consensus on trade and deciding not to issue their usual joint communique. Officials from China and the US clashed over whether the communique should include language which criticised Beijing's trade practices, as well as the World Trade Organisation. PNG will instead issue a "chairman's statement", Zhang Shaogang, director-general of China's international department at the Ministry of Commerce, said.
