Barrett resigned in protest in July, alleging the club was in breach of his contract for allegedly failing to provide the necessary staff and resources required to do the job.

A furious Manly chairman and majority owner Scott Penn is refusing to payout the $300,000 Barrett is asking for to walk away.

Instead, Barrett, who has two years to run on his deal, is being forced to serve a 12-month notice period under the terms of his contract.

Des Hasler, who is reportedly frustrated by the club’s handling of the messy Barrett break-up, was announced as the Sea Eagles’ head coach last month.

The northern beaches club now faces the embarrassing and unprecedented situation of having two head coaches report for duty on Friday.

It was thought Manly’s lawyers and Barrett’s legal team had reached an agreement earlier this month after months of tense negotiations but not deal has been struck.

The Sea Eagles believe they are within their rights to reassign Barrett to another role within the organisation because he resigned his post.

But the 40-year-old’s lawyers claim the Sea Eagles have broken the contract by hiring Hasler and essentially demoting their client, meaning the club must agree to a payout.

If Barrett does turn up to work as expected it is unknown what role, if any, he will carry out.
