It was the moment that brought a mother to tears.

As Australian opening batsman Marcus Harris clipped one through the legside for his first runs in Test cricket, television cameras picked up his proud mother wiping tears from her eyes.

The 26-year-old was impressive on his Test debut in Adelaide, occupying the crease for nearly two hours as he blunted the Indian new ball bowlers, all under the watchful eye of his loved ones.

Family friend Glynn Cooper flew out from England earlier this week, just a day after his own father’s funeral, to be on hand for Harris’ big moment, having promised him seven years ago he’d be there for his Test debut.

“The call was only a few days before the match,” Cooper told Fox Cricket.

“It was my father’s funeral last Monday, I flew out on Tuesday, and I got here on time to fulfil that promise to the boy.

“I don’t think we’ve seen a quarter of what that boy can do. I really think he’s the future.

“They’re on the journey with you, and when you make it to the ultimate, which is playing Test cricket, they feel that as well,” Taylor told Wide World of Sports.

“There’s obviously the realisation that you’ve achieved the goal of making the team, but then there’s the worry about how you’ll go.

“You get the cap but then you’ve got to go out and show the world that you’re good enough, and there’s nowhere to hide.”

Harris showed great composure during his innings of 26, which eventually came to an end when he was caught at bat-pad off the bowling of Ravi Ashwin.

Harris and Usman Khawaja had to dig in after Australia’s innings got off to a horror start, with Aaron Finch’s first Test innings in Australia lasting just three balls.

The moment Australian Test cricketer Usman Khawaja breaks down at training after learning his brother, 39, 'faked a terror plot to frame his love rival' Australian cricket star Usman Khawaja hung his head in his hands as tears welled in his eyes during training on Tuesday - just hours after he learned his brother had been arrested for allegedly faking a terror plot to frame his love rival.

Finch lost both middle and off-stumps after getting an inside edge to an Ishant Sharma delivery that seamed back in, finding an alarmingly large gap between bat and pad.

It was an ugly look for a player who many believe should be batting in the middle order, rather than opening the innings.

Australia took just a single ball to wrap up the Indian innings this morning, with Mohammed Shami caught down the legside off Josh Hazlewood, to end India’s innings at the overnight score of 250.
