The commercial vehicle manufacturer MAN wants to focus more on electric drives and hydrogen as a fuel in the future.
For example, the company wants to focus on battery-powered electric vehicles for buses in local public transport, as MAN announced on the sidelines of a visit by Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) to Nuremberg. The first prototypes with hydrogen drives for trucks on long-haul routes should be on the road from next year.
"Bavaria should become the leading location for hydrogen technology," wrote Söder on Twitter after the visit. The Free State is working with MAN on the development of truck hydrogen engines in Nuremberg. You are now igniting a “research turbo for green technologies”, wrote Söder.
MAN wants to work closely with Bavarian research institutions in the development steps. As part of a so-called Bavaria fleet, the company would like to test hydrogen for use in long-distance road freight transport together with Bavarian infrastructure operators and shipping partners.
MAN recently hit the headlines with the announcement that it wanted to part with up to 9,500 employees.
