Apple iOS 11 is at it again. Following the release of iOS 11.1.1 earlier this month specifically to fix a bizarre typing bug, it turns out that its successor one week later only made things worse. And Apple has now confirmed this nasty surprise…

In short: iOS 11 is once again having trouble allowing users to type basic words and letters. After iOS 11.1.1 automatically turned ‘i’ into ‘A[?]’, MacRumors revealed hundreds of iPhone owners running iOS 11.1.2 cannot type ‘it’ or ‘is’ without them being turned into ‘I.T’ or ‘I.S’. Given how common both these words are, affected users are being driven crazy.

Apple accuses Qualcomm of patent infringement in countersuit

Apple accuses Qualcomm of patent infringement in countersuit Apple has denied the claims that it violated Qualcomm's battery life patents and alleged that Qualcomm's patents were invalid, a common move in such cases. But on Wednesday, in a filing in U.S. District Court in San Diego, Apple revised its answer to Qualcomm's complaint with accusations of its own. Apple alleges it owns at least eight battery life patents that Qualcomm has violated. The Apple patents involve ensuring each part of a phone's processor draws only the minimum power needed, turning off parts of the processor when they are not needed and making sleep and wake functions work better.

Apple iOS 11 .3.1 has an impossible task: fix the wreckage (1,2,3,4,5) of good intentions that was iOS 11 .3 and try not to cause serious problems itself. Apple iOS 11 .3.1 Has A Nasty Surprise . Why There Will Be No ‘Product Red’ iPhone X. Leaked Apple Report Reveals iPhone X Is Dead.

The good news is Apple support has taken the proactive stance of confirming the bug and offering affected users a temporary work around. As Goldstar CEO Jim McCarthy‏ tweeted:

“Here’s what worked for me (from Apple): reset Keyboard Dictionary. To do this, navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary. Reboot the device then test to see if the issue persist[s].”

Other users have confirmed receiving the same advice from Apple, but it is not working for everyone. Others have found instead an alternative fix by navigating to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement and entering ‘it’ as both the phrase and shortcut (and repeating the same process for ‘is’) has done the job – video below. But again it doesn’t work for everyone.

Apple's root-level macOS bug can be reopened by updating

Apple's root-level macOS bug can be reopened by updating After news broke of a devastating security flaw in its most recent version of macOS, Apple responded quickly by releasing a patch. As Wired mentions, if someone is still on the initial release of High Sierra (10.13), and installs the patch, then later updates to 10.13.1, then the security flaw will return. It can be fixed by reinstalling the patch, but it's important for users to know that the computers won't restart itself, and it needs to be restarted before it will be secure.

And now another nasty surprise has been revealed… Apple iOS 11 .3 Has A Significant New Problem. Apple has just released iOS 11 beta 2, but iOS 11 beta 2 has a very nasty hidden surprise if you install it and then try to downgrade back to iOS 10.

Of course a bug which makes a mess of your typing is perhaps not as serious as recent iOS 11 bugs which destroy your battery life or repeatedly crash your apps. But given iPhones are used as much for work as play, it’s certainly one which will cause the blood to boil when trying to type important messages to your boss or colleagues.

Given Apple has acknowledged the bug, which seems to be just the latest symptom of the company’s breakneck release schedule (iOS 11.1.2 was the seventh iOS 11 release in eight weeks), hope will be high for iOS 11.1.3 to arrive soon. That said I suspect a fix bundled into the bigger and impending iOS 11.2 release would make more sense. Hopefully this one can spell…
