  Snapchat throws shade at Facebook with Russian bot filter Snapchat is taking full advantage of Facebook’s position in the news cycle on April Fools’ Day this year with a genius amount of shade. After trolling Facebook last year with a lighthearted Instagram-style filter, Snapchat is going one step further with a Facebook filter that’s designed to recreate Russian bots liking your posts. The filter places a Facebook UI around your photo with Cyrillic script-like text, and even includes likes from “your mum” and “a bot.

Sources have reported that Snap is working on two new versions of Spectacles : one with smaller tweaks to the existing device, and another with GPS and a dual camera, slated to sell for as much as 0.

However, it seems the company isn't willing to admit defeat just yet, as a new FCC filing has surfaced suggesting a new version of the tech is on its way.

The filing for a "wearable video camera" -- heavily redacted, of course -- doesn't reveal any meaty details about the potential device, but refers to it as "Model 002", indicating it's the second version of the product. According to the filing, it will support the 802.11ac WiFi standard, which means faster file transfers. The original Spectacles included a FCC ID label on the physical device, whereas the new version will come with an electronic ID label, accessible within the Snapchat app. Could this mean a redesigned frame?

  BlackBerry accuses Snapchat of infringing its messaging patents BlackBerry has filed a complaint against Snap accusing the company of infringing its patented messaging technology in the Snapchat app. The complaint, which runs a hefty 71 pages, accuses Snap of infringing six patents including map improvements for mobile devices, advertising techniques, and UI improvements for mobile devices. It also cites Snap Maps and the display count of unread messages on a notification dot as “infringing activities.” The complaint was first reported by Bloomberg.

Snap is working on a new set of Spectacles - www.engadget.com. Perhaps even more surprising is news that Snap is working on a third, more ambitious version of Spectacles featuring a new design and dual cameras to allow for 3D-like depth effects.

Two new Spectacles products are said to be in the works . Snap is apparently also in conversations with major glasses companies including Luxottica and Warby Parker to license out its camera technology.

Sources have reported that Snap is working on two new versions of Spectacles: one with smaller tweaks to the existing device, and another with GPS and a dual camera, slated to sell for as much as $300. But if the company struggled to sell its originals for $129, the premium device will probably have to boast a raft of additional features to make it appealing to a mainstream market -- especially since much of the product's young demographic are unlikely to be particularly cash rich. Snapchat now lets advertisers sell products directly through Lenses .
This week Snapchat is rolling out Shoppable AR, a new feature that makes it even easier for advertisers to sell goods through sponsored lenses. Now companies can essentially close that shopping loop, while keeping users inside the Snapchat experience. Shoppable AR makes it possible to add a button directly to a Lens, which users can tap on to visit a website where they can learn more about -- or more to the point -- just buy the product. Other options include a link to install an app or a “long form” video like a trailer. All of that happens directly inside the app.
